What this build is

Ice Shot Deadeye is the cold-bow archetype almost everyone lands on, and the structure is clean: Ice Shot bursts into a chilling cone that softens packs, Snipe is the charged shot you commit when something needs to die now, and Herald of Ice turns your first frozen kill into a chain of shatters. Ice-Tipped Arrows is the glue that makes a physical bow read as cold in the first place. It is a build that asks one thing of you - get in close. Deadeye scales hard with proximity, so the meta leans on Point Blank and projectile-proximity bonuses, and that means playing a bow build like a shotgun, not a sniper rifle (Snipe excepted).

The core loop

Fire Ice Shot through packs and let the cone chill everything it clips - you want enemies frozen, not just hit. The first thing that dies frozen sets off Herald of Ice and the pack folds. Drop Freezing Mark on the scary rare so it locks down too. For bosses, this flips: hold Snipe to its charge, release for a big committed hit, and let Mirage Archer keep firing while you reposition. The tension to respect is range - your damage wants you close (Point Blank), but close is where you die, so you are constantly drifting in to shoot and back out to breathe. Freeze is what buys you that space.

Leveling path

Acts 1-2 - Ice Shot and a cold weaponL1-~12

Ice Shot is your main from the start - take it and a bow with the most flat cold and attack speed you can find. Add Ice-Tipped Arrows the instant it is available; before that your 'cold' build is just a physical one. Don't chase resistances yet, stack Life and keep your bow current.

Acts 3-4 - freeze, then shatter~L12-~35

Bring in Herald of Ice once your freezes land reliably - that is the clear-speed jump where one frozen kill clears the screen. Add Freezing Mark for the rares that out-tank your chill, and start treating gloves and belt as your attack-speed-and-resistance slots. Resistances should be capped by the time the campaign ends; the acts keep eating them.

Maps / endgame - shotgun the screen~L35+

Now the proximity meta kicks in: lean into Point Blank and the projectile-proximity nodes, add Endless Munitions for extra arrows, and play close. Snipe becomes your boss button and Mirage Archer your free uptime. Your gear focus shifts from raw survival to freeze threshold and chill effect so rares lock down before they reach you.

Skill packages

IS
main
Ice Shot

Your main and your clear. The impact cone chills everything it covers, which is the whole point - you are seeding freezes, not landing one big hit. Fire it through packs, not at single targets.

S
boss
Snipe

The single-target answer. Charge it up and release for a heavy committed shot on bosses or beefy rares. The one time you are allowed to stand still and aim instead of shotgunning.

HOI
clear
Herald of Ice

The clear multiplier. A frozen kill shatters and chains ice outward; once it is online, Ice Shot's chill turns into screen-wide clear. It only pays off when your freezes are reliable, so it comes in a bit after your main.

FM
utility
Freezing Mark

Setup utility. Mark the dangerous target to help freeze it and feed the shatter loop. Best spent on the one rare in a pack that would otherwise survive.

IA
buff
Ice-Tipped Arrows

The enabler. Adds cold to your attacks so the freeze package functions at all - slot it as early as possible.

MA
utility
Mirage Archer

A spectral copy that keeps firing where you aim. Free extra damage and uptime, most noticeable on bosses where every extra shot counts.

Where it sits in the meta

SDeadeye is S-tier this league (#3 most-played of 9) — that's popularity, where the ladder actually is, not a power ranking. See the full tier list →

This is a build that is on-trend for good reasons, not herd reasons. Ice Shot and Snipe are the two most-run skills on Deadeye because they cover the two problems a bow build has - clear and single-target - and Herald of Ice plus Ice-Tipped Arrows are the freeze package that ties them together. The honest 'make it yours' room is in the support slots: Mirage Archer is popular rather than mandatory, and your second utility (Freezing Mark vs another curse/mark) is a preference, not a rule. The cold-freeze skeleton is the part the meta is actually telling you to keep.

Staying alive

Deadeye is a glass archetype that defends with control, not toughness. A frozen enemy isn't shooting back, so freeze speed is a defensive stat here as much as an offensive one - the faster a pack locks down, the less your low Life pool matters. On top of that: cap resistances by end of campaign, keep Life on every slot, and respect the proximity tension - Point Blank wants you close, so freeze is what makes 'close' survivable. Evasion and a sliver of Energy Shield round it out; do not try to facetank.
